Cell Phone Policy

 STUDENT PHONE POLICY & GUIDELINES

Phones are not to be used during school. Every student is assigned a personal Yondr Pouch and puches are stored in a designated class bin during the school day. The Yondr Pouch is considered school property.

 

DAILY PROCESS

As students Arrive to School, they will:

1)       Turn their phone off.

2)      Place their phone inside their Pouch and secure it in front of school staff.

3)      Pouch will be stored in a secured location by staff.

 

At the end of the day, students will open their Pouch, remove their phone, and put their Pouch in their class bin.  

 

*Students arriving late or leaving early will pouch their phones in the Welcome Center (A225) with Parent Coordinator – Ms. Milca Zapata.

 

VIOLATIONS

Pouch Damage / Lost Pouch / Using Phone During School

-          If a student damages their Pouch, Administration will collect the phone/Pouch and call home for a conference. Parent Pickup AND/OR [Community Service / In-School Suspension / Detention] AND/OR $15 fee for a replacement Pouch.

-          Not turning in your phone upon arrival:

®     1st offense - verbal warning & parent notification

®     2nd offense - phone conference with parent

®     3rd offense – parent must pick up phone from school

®     4th offense - the incident is documented into OORS and cell phone must be turned into an administrator each day.

 

Examples of damage:

 Yonder Cell phone pouch

        Deep scratches on the globe and on the green ring around it

        Intentional pen marks on the inside of the Pouch

        Bent pins

       Pin and button not fully recessing, due to pin damage

 

Parent Contract for Use of Cell Phones and Other Electronic Devices 2025-2026

 

I have read the policy of my child’s school on cell phones and other electronic devices, the Discipline Code, and the Bill of Student Rights and Responsibilities, and understand the behavior that is required of my child.  

 

I agree to help my child follow these policies by:

·      discussing with my child the contents of the school’s cell phone and electronics policy, the Discipline Code and the Bill of Student Rights and Responsibilities; 

·      encouraging my child to be a respectful and peaceful member of the school community, and to never use an electronic device to engage in harassment, bullying or intimidation, or to take photos or post pictures of others without staff authorization; 

·      reminding my child that cell phones and electronic devices may not be used and must be turned off during school fire drills or other emergency preparedness exercises; 

·      reminding my child about the importance of academic honesty and never using an electronic device to engage in cheating or to help others cheat;

·      calling the school if I need to contact my child during the school day and not trying to reach my child on his/her electronic device during the school day;

·      teaching my child to be responsible and safe about his/her electronic devices both in school and while traveling to and from school, to not display the devices or carry them in a manner that attracts attention, to always travel using safe, familiar streets with good lighting, and to refrain from using shortcuts through isolated areas;

·      reminding my child that cell phones or electronic devices may not be used in school and must be turned off unless a teacher or administrator has given permission and that having a cell phone or electronic device is a privilege, and that the privilege may be revoked, or confiscated by the school if they are used in violation of the school’s policy or the Discipline Code;

·      reminding my child that the school is not responsible or liable if his/her device is lost, damaged or stolen, that it is my child’s responsibility to take proper care of his/her device, and that devices may not be charged at school.

 

MS319 Cell Phone Policy

Cell phones, smart watches and any other communication devices may not be used while in the school building. If you bring a cell phone to school, it will be placed in a Yondr pouch and stored in a class bin secured by the school. Having a phone or other electronic device is not allowed during the school day. A student may request permission from a staff member to use the school phone to contact parent/guardian in case of an emergency. If a cell phone is used during school hours: 

·      1st Time Violation: Verbal warning & parent notification.

·      2nd Time Violation: Phone conference with parent.

·      3rd Time Violation: The mobile device is held in the school office until a parent/guardian picks it up.

·      4th Time Violation: The incident is documented into OORS and cell phone must be turned into an administrator each day.
