MS 319 Basketball League Playoff Race Tightens Before Feb. Break

Two Games Down to the Wire Before the Two-Week Layoff

All streaks must come to an end.  That was the storyline in both MS 319 Basketball League games on Saturday, February 7th, as the previously unbeaten Wildcats lost their first game, and the Spurs notched their first victory.  Utilizing a player personnel exemption because of the absence of their top two draft picks, the Spurs signed power forward Adonis Taveras to their squad, who made his MS 319 League debut with ten points and two big blocks.  The Cavs, who led by as much as six points in the second half, were led by sixth-grade sparkplug Kristian Ortiz, who netted ten points in the 31-29 loss.

Late-game drama again followed the Blue Devils, who found themselves down three points in the final possession.  Wesley Cruz was fouled as he hit a basket in the paint as time expired, and sunk the free throw to force overtime.  Jose Soto's strong defense sealed the victory in OT, moving the Blue Devils into first place.  The second half of the season begins on February 28th, with all four teams still in playoff contention. Click on this link to view league stats, standings, and the upcoming schedule.
