"Viva le France!" Team France Wins the MS 319 World Cup!!

posted Jun 26, 2018, 5:08 AM by Christian Sanchez

In a lopsided match, Team France defeated Team Mexico 5-1 yesterday in MS 319's first ever Student Soccer Tournament.  Captain Steven Ramales of 701, Johnny Garcia of 605, Jerry Ramos 701, Carlos Hidalgo 601, and Andy Chino of 603 won bragging rights in the MS 319 school yard.  One of the best plays of the game came with a lofty kick from the side that was headed by Steven Ramales into the net for a goal.  Team Mexico would not lose without a fight.  They would score one goal but could not mount a sustained comeback.

I would like to thank Mr. Barkan, Dean Abreu, the administration of MS 319 and the staff and students who made this event possible.

In Game #2 of the first ever MS 319 Student Soccer Tournament, in commemoration of the World Cup 2018, Team France beats Team Argentina 1-0 in extra time.  In was a hard fought game with a lot of defense and little scoring.  However, in the second minute of overtime, France's Captain Steven Ramales takes a free kick, and shoots it into the goal above the outstretched arms of Argentina's goalie.  It was a majestic shot.  France now moves on to the Championship against Team Mexico on Monday period 8.

MS 319 represented by 2 players in City-Wide All-Star game

posted Jun 19, 2018, 7:07 AM by Christian Sanchez   [ updated Jun 19, 2018, 7:09 AM ]

On Saturday June 16 at the beautiful Fordham University campus 2 players from the MS 319 Baseball team were selected to participate in the City-Wide All-Star game which involved 45 players from the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, and Manhattan.  Derlis Cedeno(821) received the Team Leadership Award and Noeyni Morel(721) was named to the City-Wide All-Star game playing 3rd and 2nd base while making a great play in the field as the Manhattan/Queens All-Stars defeated the Bronx/Brooklyn All-Stars by a score of 5-3.   An added highlight of the All-Star game was that our boys had the opportunity to meet and talk to Luis Clemente one of the son’s of the late great Roberto Clemente.   Roberto Clemente was one of 7 children born in Puerto Rico who worked in the sugar fields as a child.  Roberto Clemente was the 7th player to break the color line in professional baseball and wore the number 21 for the letters in his name to express the pride in his Latin heritage and his refusal to be called “Bob” or “Bobby” because of his love and respect for his Latin name Roberto.  Roberto Clemente became the 1st Latin/Caribbean player to be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame as well as the first Latin/Caribbean player to achieve 3,000 hits.  Tragically, Roberto Clemente’s life was cut short as he died in a plane crash December 31, 1972 as he was attempting to bring supplies to Nicaragua which had been devastated by an earthquake.  The incredible journey from the sugar fields of Puerto Rico to becoming one of the greatest players to ever play the game represents the ideals of MS 319 perseverance, achievement, and excellence.
